After the historic conference is done, guests can travel with ZAP to the Venetian influenced region of Istria, and then fly home from Venice.

Istria is known for spectacular white wines that are now just appearing in the US, beautiful hill-towns, an Italian flavored culture, and spectacular beaches framed by medieval cities.
Surrounded by water, it is no wonder that seafood features so prominently in Istrian cuisine, and possibly even more astonishing is the high quality of the local wine that was bred to match this food. Of course they have Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir, but what makes this region truly special is the local white wine variety of Malvasia. Used as a blending wine in Piedmont and Tuscany, Istrian Malvasia takes on a special characteristic that makes it as interesting and age-worth as Chardonnay or Vermentino. In the last few years, young winemakers are coupling international techniques to this ancient grape, and the results are positively startling.

Day 1 │Depart Split & Arrive in Rovinj [B,L,D]

Start the day off with breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant before checking out of your room and meeting the group in the lobby.

From Split, guests will board the motorcoach in the morning for the drive, with a stop for lunch, to Rovinj, Croatia. Rovinj is situated on the west coast of Istria, the biggest peninsula on the Adriatic coastline.

Travel writer Rick Steves best describes Rovinj as “A little Venice on a hill and one of my favorite small towns on the Mediterranean. Rising dramatically from the Adriatic as though being pulled up to heaven by its grand bell tower, there's something particularly romantic about Rovinj. It’s the most Italian town in Croatia's most Italian region with streets delightfully twisty, ancient houses, and its harbor still hosts a real fishing industry”

Accommodations for all three nights are at the seaside, 5-star luxury Hotel Lone.

Situated in the midst of the protected Golden Cape forest park, the name “Lone” is taken from the adjacent bay next to the hotel. Designed to showcase inspiration and Croatian creativity, the hotel’s creation brought together the best Croatian architects, designers, and contemporary artists.

After checking in to the hotel, you have time to relax and settle in to your room before meeting your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner. The charming restaurant where you’ll dine this evening is a brief 15-minute walk from the restaurant, and the multi-course menu will be paired with a selection of local wines.

Winery founder, Ivica Matosevic, is the president of the Istrian Winemaker’s Association, Vinistra, and an important face of the local wine industry. Here you’ll tour his cellars and taste a selection of his wines.

Your next stop is Kozlovic Wine Estate. A family run winery focuses on indigenous Istrian varietals and single vineyard vintages.
