Last year we hosted our first Tablas Creek Rhone-river cruise with more than 100 of our friends and fans. We all enjoyed the luxury of our Uniworld ship, but everyone agreed that the trip highlight was our wine-paired lunch at Chateau Beaucastel, our sister winery in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Most of our group also had a wonderful lunch at Chapoutier Winery, in the famed wine village of Hermitage, and many of us arrived into Paris early to enjoy the “City of Light”, to visit two wonderful Champagne houses, and to enjoy a paired lunch with one grower-producer.
It was such an overall fantastic experience, we’ve decided to go back! But this time we plan to have the whole ship to ourselves, as this will allow us to again taste at Chateau Beaucastel but to also add a tasting and lunch at the Perrins’ Clos des Tourelles in Gigondas. Like last year, our lunch will be cooked by Chef Laurent Deconick of the Michelin-rated restaurant L'Oustalet.
My wife Meghan and I will join our executive winemaker Neil Collins and his wife Marci to host, and we again will be cruising on the Uniworld ship Catherine. We loved this ship and we agree with high ratings it has received in Zagat and Conde Naste Traveler. In fact the ship was voted the “#1 River Cruise Line in the World” by Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards, in addition to being named to Condé Nast’s prestigious Gold List and Platinum Circle.
The Catherine is one of the newest and best appointed ships on the river, only carrying 159 passengers. Her cabins are larger than other river ships and she features multiple restaurants, a swimming pool, a small gym, bicycles and walking sticks for exploring the nearby towns, complimentary daily shore tours and complimentary beer and wine at lunch and dinner.
During the voyage, we will visit charming villages, dynamic cities and cruise past five of France’s most storied appellations: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage and Burgundy.
Uniworld is an all-inclusive experience, and because we’re selling the entire ship, we can include wines from Tablas Creek, Beaucastel and the Perrin family with dinner every night. Neil and I will also lead an educational seminar comparing and contrasting the wines we make here in Paso Robles and those our partners make in the regions we’ll be visiting.
Our travel partner, Food & Wine Trails, will also again offer guests of Tablas Creek a 3-night pre-cruise Paris package with a day in the wine region of Champagne and an optional day tour in the famed Hermitage region that includes a tour, tasting and lunch at a premier winery.
We have reserved the entire ship for our group at a special rate, but only until January 31, 2017 when prices will go up (if there are even any cabins left).
